If this motor has been out of the water for four days, you are about 3 1/2 days too late. Drain and replace the fluids, remove the turbos, and get some diesel into them, and take the motor to your nearest Detroit shop. After 4 days, the motor will probably have to be torn down to the crank for bearing replacement. When you raise a “sinker” you need to get it running within a couple of hours to prevent corrosion.

The 671 is a tank. You need to follow the advice of the first guy to answer here. If you want to save some money, just get the engine out of the boat and start to tear it down. If it has been immersed in fresh water, you might not have too much trouble. Get the accessories off, break them down as you can, bag and number all bolts, and lube ‘em up. Get the head off, and remove, clean, lubricate and inspect every component of the head.

You can tear the block down yourself and buy a rebuild kit if you’re handy, but you’ll still have to send the turbo, fuel pump and starter out for a rebuild. The rest can be done at home if you’ve got a professional tool kit, a manual and time. If you see rust anywhere inside the head or block, it’s got to be removed, either by you or a shop.

If in salt water times up. fresh water and no silt than drain all the water out since it a major job to pull the injectors. pull the side plates and turn the engine over slow so the water will come out squirt oil in the ports. remove the air box for the blower and spray down. Best to hire a Detroit mechanic as he knows the correct way to save the engine and your time might of ran out.
