Bullett will lead Festival parade
The weekend kicks off with a free ‘Gospel Explosion’ on Friday evening, sponsored by the Jefferson County NAACP. Betty Roper Auditorium at Wright Denny Intermediate School will be the site of performances by several groups including ‘Jubilant’ from Mt. Zion Methodist Church in Leesburg, Va., Ebenezer Mt. Calvary, Summit Point; Steve Rivera, saxophonist; Danielle Washington, soloist; trumpeers from Shenandoah Valley, Va.; and Saint Paul AME Church, Winchester, Va. The music starts at 7 p.m. An opening ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. with additional events scheduled throughout the afternoon. Marching bands will demonstrate their talents on the festival grounds at 2:15 p.m. with other bands and entertainment following at regular intervals throughout the afternoon. The ‘Winfield Parker Review’ takes the stage at 7 p.m. and again at 8:05 after a brief intermission.
