Doris Maxwell, 88
CAMDEN -- Doris M. Robbins Maxwell, 88, of 917 E. County Road 300 North, died at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 29, 2011, at St. Elizabeth Healthcare Center in Delphi. She had been in failing health and a resident of the health care facility since June 10.
She was born May 25, 1923, in Carroll County and was the daughter of the late Roscoe and Grace Wise Robbins. She was a 1941 graduate of Delphi High School.
She married Junior E. Maxwell in Pettit on Dec. 24, 1941. He died May 10, 2007.
Mrs. Maxwell was a homemaker and helped her husband on their family farm. She was a member of the Lower Deer Creek Church of the Brethren near Camden. She made and decorated various kinds of cakes for the community and surrounding area, from 1956 to 2001. She enjoyed crafts, painting and sewing, and she and her husband were in a euchre card club for many years.
Survivors include a daughter, Ginny Yoder (husband: Gary) of Flora; two sons, Richard Maxwell (wife: Connie) of Lafayette and Robin Maxwell (wife: Carolyn) of Camden.
She dearly loved all her family and enjoyed being with them all. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren, Jamie, Jason, Jeremy, Rob, Julie, Serena, Patrick and Melanie; and 9 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by a sister, Alice Reppert.
Friends may call Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Abbott Funeral Home, Delphi. Service 11 a.m. Saturday at Lower Deer Creek Church of the Brethren, Camden, Pastor Mark Wilhelm officiating. Burial at Musselman Cemetery, Camden. Memorial contributions may be made to the Camden American Legion Post 413; envelopes are available at the funeral home. While working there she befriended local woman, Augustina Buezo. Tragically Ms Buezo died after a car accident, leaving behind six sons. Ms Maxwell was touched by their plight and adopted the six brothers. “It was something close to my heart,” she said
