3 held for cheating woman with offer of cheap flats

AHMEDABAD: A woman reporter with a local daily was duped of Rs 75,000 by three persons. The trio had promised to provide her cheap flats on the Sabarmati riverfront. The accused were nabbed by Ranip police on the charge of cheating.

According to Ranip police, Nita Nagar, a resident of Raipur Chakla, works with Aavtikal newspaper near Subhash Bridge. She came into contact with Hardeep Kaur Bihola, Devendra Kansara and Rakesh Rawal. Bihola, who works at Nagar's company as an accountant, introduced her to the other two persons.

"As per Nagar's complaint, the trio told her that she can avail the cheap government residences meant for displaced in the Sabarmati riverfront project. They assured her of proper documents for the purpose and asked for Rs 12,000 for the residence. Considering it to be a cheap investment, Nagar booked five such residences and paid Rs 60,000 to the trio," police said.

Nagar was then asked to pay Rs 20,000 to get the required documents and subsidy on construction provided by the government to the poor. She paid the amount and asked them to give her the required documents. After two months when she did not get any follow-up or documents, she realized that she was duped. She tried to approach Bihola but in vain. After a while, when she finally caught up with her, she paid her Rs 5,000 and said that she would pay the remaining amount soon as the deal did not work out.

The money never came. Nagar filed a complaint for cheating against the trio on Thursday after which the accused were nabbed on Friday.
