LAS VEGAS, N.M. — Dropping water levels at Storrie Lake have forced state park officials to close the boat ramp at the northern New Mexico lake.

Officials are also prohibiting the use of motorized boats because the water levels have resulted in safety concerns. The boat ramp will reopen when conditions improve.

Park Manager Stephen Coca says water levels are less than officials hoped for this season, and they want to make sure that boaters are kept safe.

The lake is still open for windsurfing, canoeing and kayaking.

Officials also say anglers have been successful from the shoreline in reeling in rainbow trout, brown trout, crappie and catfish.
