Pale Moon 5.0

Versie 5.0 van Pale Moon is uitgekomen. Deze webbrowser maakt gebruik van de broncode van Mozilla Firefox, maar is geoptimaliseerd voor moderne hardware. De Windows-versie van Mozilla Firefox wordt namelijk ontwikkeld met een zo groot mogelijke compatibiliteit in gedachte. Mede door concessies aan oudere hardware is de browser niet zo snel als hij zou kunnen zijn, aldus Pale Moon-maker Moonchild Productions.

Pale Moon is functioneel nagenoeg gelijk aan Mozilla Firefox, maar biedt geen ondersteuning voor oudere processors. Ook zijn enkele zaken weggelaten, waaronder 'Accessibility features' en 'Parental controls'. Het resultaat is een browser die tot 25 procent beter zou presteren . Het programma gebruikt zijn eigen profielmap en deelt deze niet met Firefox, waardoor het mogelijk is om de twee naast elkaar te gebruiken.

Pale Moon 5.0

I'm pleased to announce the release of Pale Moon 5.0, building on the new Firefox 5.0 source code.

This release also sees some cosmetic, performance and stability improvements in addition to the new source branch. Released are the 32-bit and 64-bit desktop browsers, and the 32-bit portable.

Note that from now on, portable versions of Pale Moon will come packed in a self-extracting archive, and no longer in a zip file. This is both a smaller download (by quite a bit) and more convenient to use (simply run, tell it where to unpack, and you're set).

Pale Moon 4.x will now be DISCONTINUED, as the differences between 4 and 5 are too small to maintain the 4.x branch (which, truth be told, has been a headache to deal with, so I'd rather put that behind me)

Pale Moon 3.x WILL BE CONTINUED in development and support, and is still the version of choice for everyone running Windows XP. This will also be the only version available for Athlon XP processors and comparable (SSE-capable) waarschijnlijk omdat de verschillen tussen 4 & 5 zo miniem zullen zijn gewoon de aanpassingen uit de 4 gemerged naar hun branch van de 5 en dan op compile geduwd om te zien of er nog rare build errors zijn.
En dan alles checken. En dan releasen zoals bij de meeste IT bedrijven ( = vingers kruisen dat er niets misloopt bij de gebruiker :-) )

Mijn vraag is eerder is deze versie nog relevant want in de 4 waren de performance differences al reeds miniem geworden.
