Air NZ treats 700 fans to Las Vegas trip

A jumbo celebration to mark cheap airfare website grabaseat's fifth birthday just got twice as big.

Air New Zealand had asked users of the website to nominate a party location to toast its August anniversary and party-mecca Las Vegas was chosen.

The airline had only planned to take one Boeing 747-worth of passengers but when tickets sold out in just two weeks last month, a second tandem flight departing on August 7 was announced. That flight is now half full. 

Three weddings, a stag do, several anniversaries and numerous birthdays make up some of the other reasons 700 passengers have booked to party.

Air New Zealand said passengers included people from all over New Zealand and Australia and ages twenty-somethings ''looking for a good time'' to grandparents wanting to ''tick Vegas off their bucket lists''.

''With two 747s filled with fun-loving Kiwis and Aussies, all looking forward to living it up for five days in Vegas, it will certainly be a trip to remember," Bruce Parton, Group General Manager Australasia, said.

He said passenagers had already been in touch with each other to check itineraries so the flights ''will be like catching up with several hundred mates, old and new, but in the party capital of the world''.

Packages for this trip, which includes direct flights between Auckland and Las Vegas, as well as four nights accommodation at the Tropicana Hotel, airport transfers, a pool party at Nikki Beach and a Night Club party at the famous Club Nikki where top Kiwi band Opshop will play, start from $2299 per person return.
