— Give input on beach project

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will hold a public workshop on the draft environmental impact statement for the southern St. Lucie County beach dune restoration project from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday in the St. Lucie County Commission Chambers on the third floor of the Roger Poitras Administration Annex, 2300 Virginia Ave. in Fort Pierce. The project includes a proposal to place about 610,000 cubic yards of sand over 3.8 miles of shoreline to stabilize the beach and restore the dune along beaches south of the St. Lucie Nuclear Power Plant to the St. Lucie/Martin County line. The sand would come from a shoal roughly 3 miles offshore of the project area.

Keith Melton, a military historian, author and expert on clandestine devices and equipment, will give a presentation titled "The Role of Covert Technology in the Mumbai Attacks" from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Bailey Auditorium of Indian River State College's Treasure Coast Public Safety Training Complex, 4600 Kirby Loop Road in Fort Pierce. The talk is about the Nov. 26, 2008, terrorist attack in Mumbai, India, in which 166 people were killed and more than 300 wounded. The St. Lucie County Bar Association and Florida Rural Legal Services will sponsor "Ask-A-Lawyer," a free legal advice clinic with local private attorneys, from 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Havert L. Hear musicians for Haiti

A group of world class, professional musicians with backgrounds in folk, jazz and classical styles will present the Musicians United for Haiti concert at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Vero Beach High School Performing Arts Center, 1707 16th St. Tickets are $30, with proceeds benefiting two local nonprofit organizations, Haiti Partners and Haiti Clinic. SHSS Launches New Program in National Security Studies and Hosts ...

The new Master of Science in National Security Affairs (NSA) offered by the Graduate School of Humanities & Social Sciences, began in the 2011 summer term. To kick off the start of this new degree program, NSA in collaboration with the FBI Miami Counterintelligence Strategic Partnership Program, recently presented a training event on main campus featuring H. Keith Melton, a military historian, author, and expert on clandestine devices and equipment. Participants included the FBI, numerous law enforcement agencies, the military, government agencies, related businesses, and NSA students and faculty.

In addition to Melton, speakers included Major Jim Moyer from the Davie Police Department; Judith McKay, J.D., Ph.D., chair of the Department of Multidisciplinary Studies; John V. Gillies, Special Agent in Charge FBI Miami; Cassandra E. Joseph, Special Agent FBI Miami Strategic Partnership Coordinator; William Kline, Director Interagency Training Center, and Barbara E. Moser, Special Agent FBI Miami Strategic Partnership Coordinator.

The M.S. in National Security Affairs is a 33-credit program in the Department of Multidisciplinary Studies (DMS) and is designed to provide students with theoretical, research, and applied skills in the emerging academic field of national security affairs. Students in this program will build a core understanding of critical issues informing the field of national security today, including the assessment and analysis of the threat of terrorism in the US and beyond and the analysis of intelligence collection.
