. 3 Days before “it all ends”, EA releases the video game adaptation for the movie on Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii.We recently got our hands on the second part of the Harry Potter finale game. While most core gamers may cringe when they hear the words “video game adaptation”, the second installment of Deathly Hallows actually did an amazing job of bringing to life the atmosphere of Harry’s inevitable showdown with Voldomort and all the carnage taking place at Hogwarts before the conclusion. It’s pure wizarding bedlam.
Characters like Ron Weasley (Rupert Grint), Seamus Finnigan (Devon Murray), Neville Longbottom (Matthew Lewis), Draco Malfoy (Tom Felton) and Ginny Weasley (Bonnie Wright) are brought to life through the voices of their corresponding feature film actors. But, whats is really impressive is how far the the game has come as a non-traditional third-person shooter.
In Deathly Hallows Part 2 . Instead of using the D-Pad, however, you use the X, Y, A and B buttons on your X360 controller (or the corresponding shape buttons on the PS3 controller) to arm the different spells. Once a spell is armed, you can fire it using the standard right trigger button. Gamers have 6 spells in their arsenal instead of the 9 spells found in previous games. These include Stupefy, Expelliarmus, Confringo and Expulso. Stupefy fires a single shot, much like a handgun, while Expulso fires rapid fire shots like a machine gun. Expulso also suffers from the same drawbacks as an automatic weapon. The more shots you fire, the wider your targeting reticle becomes until finally your aim is completely off center. Confringo, unlocked later in the game, offers a giant explosion and is necessary for taking down more difficult opponents. Just like a rocket launcher, your shots are limited and it takes a while for your Confringo meter to replenish before you can fire another massive burst. Petrificus Totalus is used like a sniper rifle and can fire spells at long range.
What’s nice about this game is that it employs a modest level of strategy and requires some quick-skill with your hands to juggle spells. Often, you’ll find that the Death Eaters will use Protego to create a defensive shield in front of their bodies. You’ll have to quickly arm yourself with Expelliarmus to break their Protego spell, and then switch out to one of your other spells to take them down. It’s actually a four-button maneuver of arm Expelliarmus, fire Expelliarmus, arm Confringo, and fire Confringo.
