SHENZHEN, CHINA—This is where the world comes to make your gadgets. Along North Huaqiang Street in Shenzhen, a row of gigantic multi-story electronics malls sell everything from individual components to completely finished PCs, and everything from fake "Sumsangs" to real iPhones.
The market is dominated by the SEG building, which houses many shops, selling virtually any computer part and piece of electronics you can think of. The stalls compete with each other mercilessly, with some workers forced to take naps on the job. Many owners of small factories go to the markets looking for suppliers.
One of the most prevalent—and legendary—things up for sale are fakes. While some of these ersatz products are reasonable facsimiles of their legit counterparts, others almost exude their counterfeit nature with pride, such as the "Sumsang" and "Nokla" phones.
Apple products are some of the most copied items. While fake iPhones running Java were everywhere, some shops were selling the real deal. However, even a semi-official Apple store was showing off an iPhone that had been jailbroken by Cydia, something you'd never see in the U.S.
Android tablets are a big deal in Shenzhen as well. There's one shop that's exclusively dedicated to them, and their parts. Perhaps Google (and its manufacturer partners) should start focusing more on the Chinese market.

Without a microSD card the device cannot work. A good point here: a standard mini-USB port to read the microSD card on the computer. With only 3 visible buttons, the device is unsurprisingly easy to use. A short push on the play/pause/power button
But here's what really worried us: some of the booths were peeling old labels off used phone batteries to put on new ones, while the others were slapping shiny "QC approved" stickers onto "SanDisk" microSD cards. Frankly speaking, both sightings

It really depends on what R4 card you have. For example, the original R4 card (which by the way stopped production after 2008, so if anyone says they have the very very first R4 card they’re producing a fake / clone) only accepted up to 2GB Micro-SD cards. Also, there are many fakes on the market these days, all of which require a ‘different’ firmware to make them work. Some of the fake cards are:
- R4 Ultra etc. etc.
You need to check the store you bought it from and find out exactly what version of the card you have. The only legitimate R4 at the moment (for DS / DS Lite) is the R4 SDHC v2.10T, or basically a regular R4 card (not DSi compatible) with official website r4sdhc.com. You can grab these from dscardworld or nds-gear. Hopefully it’s one of these that you have. If not, you can probably get one quite easily.
