Performance At Barnes Museum Portrays Life Of Freed Slave

The town's Barnes Museum will present a production of "They Called Me Lizzy… from Slavery to the White House" on July 14.

The solo performance portrays the life of Elizabeth Keckly, a black woman born into slavery who got her freedom and went on to become a dressmaker and confidant of Mary Todd Lincoln, wife of President Abraham Lincoln.

The free show will be at the museum at 6 p.m. It is written and directed by Kandie Carle of the East Haddam Stage Company and performed by Stephanie Jackson. It has presented the show at libraries, schools and other venues since 2006.
