Supreme Court affirms convictions of ex-state worker for bathroom videotaping
SANTA FE, N.M. — The state Supreme Court has reinstated the convictions of a former state worker for secretly videotaping teenage girls in a bathroom at a government building in Santa Fe.
The justices overturned a decision by the Court of Appeals, which in 2009 reversed the convictions of Ronald Myers, a former employee of the Department of Transportation.
Myers was convicted of sexual exploitation of children for videotaping girls in 2004 in a bathroom next to his office in the state agency's headquarters in Santa Fe.
In its decision last week, the Supreme Court also ruled that trial judges can't suspend sex offender registration requirements while defendants appeal their convictions. A judge in Santa Fe had stayed Myers' registration requirement pending the outcome of his appeal.
